Hey, Andre, sorry I've been a slacker.....just bought a shack so my skills have been temporarily diverted. Tell me what you know about the cattail cordage. I believe it's the season to use it for that....thanks
I like the sound of making a bow drill set from rocks and materials you find along the trail. I've been thinking it's about time I push myslef and make a kit from things I encounter. The closest I've come was on the survival trek I did a while ago. We did use knives, but we had to make the kits from fallen cottonwoods or aspens (aside from the cord. I used shoe laces). Speaking of which, do you think (or know) that yucca cordage is strong enough to be the bow string for a bow drill?
What is your favorite thing to make cordage from? I haven't used nettles yet, but I'm excited to try, for my area they're probably one of the best things.
Andre.....Welcome! I've been trying to find the right materials here in Marin to make cordage. So far, nothing is working. Cattails are supposed to be good, but I must be doing something wrong. They keep tearing as I twist. Any advice would be great.
